I want you to think back to December 16th, 2009… 10 years ago today!
Okay, maybe you can’t remember exactly what you did on that day, but your Facebook timeline may be able to ring a bell.
If you’re on your computer, just go to your page and start scrolling to get that selector to drop down from the top left…
Seriously, go look, and then come back to this email.
Alright, now that we’ve had a fun little trip down memory lane, I want to ask you a question:
How much have you changed in the last 10 years?!
In December of 2009 I was about 7 months out of college, working as a personal trainer at a gym in State College, PA, and I had recently received a call from a family friend asking if I’d like to buy out a Snap Fitness in Harrisburg, PA that was upside-down on their lease payments.
I spent the next few months planning to make owning that gym a reality—wrote a business plan, secured financing, went through the franchising steps with Snap, and more—until the rug was pulled out from under my feet, just days from finalizing the deal.
But hey, if that sale went through, just think… you wouldn’t be reading this email right now.
I was also in a crappy relationship that ended with finding out I was being cheated on…
Today I’m happily married and I’m over two and a half years into a whole new adventure… dad life!
I was an employee in a business where I felt completely replaceable.
Today I own three companies.
I had doubts about my impact as a trainer.
Today I regularly receive testimonials from people whom our team’s work is positively impacting, as well as travel all over North America teaching for one of the most prestigious fitness chains on Earth, Equinox.
This isn’t a brag session.
In fact, I’ve lost people I love in the last 10 years, but I can’t change that…
I’ve fallen out of touch with people that mean a lot to me, which I can absolutely change.
I’ve just changed…
a lot
…since December of 2009.
So have you.
It’s true for all of us, whether we like it or not…
And looking back on it all, while those changes are pretty big, I’d be lying if I said I recognized them year to year.
“Most people overestimate what they can do in one year and underestimate what they can do in ten years.” – Bill Gates
It’s about this time every year that we start thinking about the NEW year. As if it’s some magical time that will change all things anew.
And while there’s nothing magical about it… you can.
I genuinely hope they did, but maybe your grand plans for 2019 didn’t come to fruition.
Maybe it’s that you overestimated what you could do…
But I am going to slightly disagree with Bill Gates here and say that
… maybe you underestimated what you actually needed to do, rather than overestimated what you could do.
So I invite you to really think about what you’d like to accomplish in 2020—or, if you’re really daring, vision ahead to 2029 (ahhhh!)…
Imagine, knowing you’re going to change no matter what, how much you can actually control that change with clear intentions—some would call these goals—and daily practices.
- What will you need to do?
- What skills will you need to develop?
- How will you keep focused?
… if you’d like help… this is exactly what we do. Take us up on a FREE WEEK below.
And even if you don’t want or need help, I’d love to hear where you were at 10 years ago compared to today. Seriously, shoot me an email to chris@beyondstrengthperformance.com and share your trip down memory lane. It’d be great to hear from you! 🙂
