How To Train So You Don’t Miss Out On Life

Have you ever planned some physical activity, but wondered if you could handle it?

You doubt you can keep up with your friends on the 5k. You’re afraid you won’t make it back down after hiking to the top of the mountain. You think, can I do it?

Your body doesn’t have to be an obstacle to doing things you enjoy in life. You can train in a way that builds a body that’s ready for anything.

Because being unable to keep up is frustrating. And, it doesn’t just impact your life. I saw this two years ago.

I was in southern Virginia near Lakes of Otter hiking Sharp Top Mountain. A man named David was hiking too, and he asked if he could hike with me so he wasn’t alone.

“Sure,” I said.

“Thanks,” he said. “This is my second time attempting this hike. I didn’t finish it last time.”

“How come?” I asked.

“My friend wasn’t able to physically hike it and had to turn around, so we couldn’t do it that day.”

David’s friend couldn’t handle the hike. He wasn’t prepared for it, and so they both stopped early.

It’s no fun when you can’t keep up. David’s friend’s lack of preparation ruined the experience for both of them.

But you can do something about it.

Training to not miss out on life

Training For Life

Beyond Strength builds bodies that are ready for anything. Because life is better with strength and endurance.

The goal is training for life, so you’re ready for anything life throws at you. Maybe you want to do all things: run, surf, play softball.

It could be something else too, like catching yourself if you trip on a curb.

So, now you might be thinking, “How do I train in a way that prepares me for anything?”

Building A Body That’s Ready For Anything

Building a body that’s ready for anything should develop different physical qualities, not one.

Let’s use playing with our kids as an example.

You need cardiovascular endurance to play with your kids for more than a few minutes.

You need power endurance to sprint after them when needed.

You need the strength to pick them up and carry them around.

You need the mobility to do all those things with ease.

Beyond Strength builds these qualities. There are four different types of workouts:

  • Strength, where we focus on getting stronger, as well as mobility
  • Vigor, which is an interval based workout to develop cardiovascular endurance
  • Resilience, which is a strength workout with lots of lifting volume
  • Endurance, which helps us develop cardiovascular endurance

Members train with the end goal of enjoying life to the fullest. And by training in these classes, our members develop the strength and endurance to live life to the fullest.

So, train more than just one quality. But what can you do right now to improve your training so that your body is ready for anything?

Only lift for strength? Add endurance work.

Do you only run? Add strength work.

And life isn’t lived in a straight line. You don’t solely move forward and backward. Train using rotational movements, lateral movements, and by incorporating single leg movements.

Incorporating these various movements trains the body how it’s designed to move. So, the next time life throws something at you, you’ll be ready for it.

You’ll be able to keep up with your friends and family.

Training isn’t one thing.

Life isn’t either. So train with a focus on developing more qualities than just strength, and train using different positions and exercises. Exercises that prepare you for anything life throws at you.
