I listened to a podcast this week that that got me absolutely pumped.  I had never heard of the person being interviewed before, but I was immediately drawn in by his story, and it got me thinking…

But before we get to what got me so pumped, I’ve got a confession to make…

99.9% of the time I write a blog, today included, I start the process with almost NO plan.  Sure, maybe there’s an idea brewing in my head—but I’m not the type to plan it all out and then do it.  I just, well, do it (hi, Nike).

But I wasn’t always like this.

I would see all of these coaches in the fitness industry with what I thought/think were phenomenal blogs, and I made up this story in my head that they must have put so much time and energy into writing every single post.

And that may or may not be true.

It led me to believe that I needed to have the perfect blog idea, lesson, flow, pictures, … before I could even start.

So, I didn’t.

I mean—sure, I would sporadically write a blog here and there, but never with consistency.  I allowed the perceived difficulty of saying the right things to often keep me from saying anything at all.

But, with time, the process just got easy.

With time, I learned what works for me as a writer.  This wasn’t an overnight development, and definitely not without struggle.  But at this point I can sit down every Wednesday morning, sans plan, and generate a blog hopefully worth sharing.

Charlie Jabaley

Ever heard of him?  Me either.  But that’s who I was listening to on the MFCEO Podcast this week when I got so pumped.

Depending on your age, you’ve definitely heard things he’s been involved with in the music industry.  Most notably, in my opinion, the artist 2 Chainz.

Well Charlie has accomplished A LOT already in his life, but it’s what he’s up to now that got me so pumped:

Pretty awesome, right?

And when asked about how he thinks of success, and accomplishing things, he had this to say:

So what I do… I tell myself it’s already done, time just moves slow.

I go into everything with the thought process of; it’s easy, because, at one time in our life, walking was very, very hard. But if we look back on it, it was a process.  It was hard, and then we kind of did it, and did it, and did it… and then forever it’s easy.

So why not, if we know that’s how everything works—whether it’s multiplication, division, walking, tying our shoe—if all these things were at one point hard and end up being easy—and we know that’s how it works every single time—we’re always going to end up saying it’s easy.  So why not just say that for everything?

It’s easy.

– Charlie Jabaley (aka Charlie Rocket, formerly Charlie CEO)

It’s easy.

I love this thought process.

I love that Charlie recognizes just that—it’s a process, whatever the hell you want to do.

And really, I’m just going to throw a link to the Podcast episode at the end of this post, but I want to give you something to think about first.

We tend to forget.

We forget what it was like to not know what we know.  It’s called the curse of knowledge.

It’s why I believe many people think they need to get in better shape before joining the gym—be it here, or anywhere else.

Do you really need to be in shape to join the gym, or did a past experience with some pumped up fitness jagaloon who forgot what it was like starting out scare you off?

So you wanna be in shape, huh?  All it takes is [insert their ridiculous routine, supplements, diet, and on, and on, and on here].  I mean, that’s what I do—it’s easy!

– Fitness Jagaloon

Because if you run across the person that forgot the process, and only thinks of how easy it is for them now, you’re working with the wrong person, plain and simple.

You don’t need to be in shape to join the gym, that’s why you join the gym.  And if you join the right gym, they’ll have the systems (i.e. processes) in place to meet you where are.

Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.

– Arthur Ashe

It’s easy.
