I remember back in college I used to be obsessed with reading fitness magazines to find out what the latest miracle supplements were.  N.O. boosters, creatine, BCAA’s, protein blends—you name it, I gave it a go.  I got stronger, put on muscle, and got lean when I wanted to shred down.  In my mind those supplements were the secret ingredient that got me there.

But after all the years gone by, still consistently hitting the gym, I’m able to see exactly what worked back then.  It wasn’t one specific ingredient, but rather a byproduct of every single supplement that I took…

 

The Supplement Mindset

I was so sure that the supplements were capable of doing what they claimed they could do that I would think, “don’t you waste this opportunity.”

Once I invested the stupid amounts of money into these pills, powders, and liquids, I wanted to squeeze every last ounce of benefit out of them that I could.

No skipping workouts.

No half-hearted effort.

No slacking on nutrition.

None of that.

 

My BELIEF in the supplements led me to do the most important stuff.

 

Show up consistently.

Train with appropriate intensity.

Eat in a manner so as to support my goals.

Minimize stress outside of the gym.

Get adequate sleep.

 

The funny thing is, I don’t really take any supplements today and I’m stronger, have put on even more muscle, and get just as lean when I want to.

 

So what do I do?

 

I still show up consistently.

I still train with appropriate intensity.

I still eat in a manner so as to support my goals.

I still try to minimize stress outside of the gym (a little more difficult with running multiple businesses and having an 18-month-old haha).

I absolutely prioritize getting adequate sleep.

 

Oh, and I save a lot of money by no longer buying supplements, which is pretty cool too.

 

Don’t YOU Waste It.

Whatever approach you’re using to get after your goals, don’t waste it by skipping the small stuff.

Show up consistently.

Train with appropriate intensity.

Eat in a manner so as to support your goals.

Minimize stress outside of the gym.

Get adequate sleep.
