InstagramButtWell, it’s actually most likely that any program she posts is a waste of time…

Excuse the bluntness of this conversation, but I just want to be real with you. Your favorite Instagram model has no idea what she’s doing. There’s a slim to none chance that she has any education pertaining to exercise, physiology, nutrition, or strength and conditioning. And there’s a supplement company lining her pockets with sweet American greenbacks to keep posting selfies, side butt view pics, and really, really stupid workouts.

Granted, we don’t blame her—she’s just doing her thing. She likely doesn’t know any better and she’s found herself a simple way to make money and get attention. But, that doesn’t mean that we have to go along with her.

Now, this might be a tough bit of advice to believe—especially because she looks so good! She has bumps in the right places and it seems as though she’s got the formula for a bikini popping booty and a flat tummy. But, reality is, she probably has a combination of a few things—good genetics, cosmetic enhancements, and some picture taking skills.

There’s a good chance she was born with that shape—or the propensity to develop that shape. It’s like how some dudes are born with the ability to be NFL linebackers and others aren’t. Some women genetically have certain shapes. That’s it and that’s all. So, they can do all the leg lifts and band walks that they want and that butt is going to be good. That won’t, however, work for most women that want a bigger, stronger set o’ glutes. (More on this in a bit.)

Disappointingly, a lot of these ladies have silicone implants that make their butts bigger. Sure, it looks natural but there’s been some slicing and dicing to make that booty pop. It isn’t the case for all instagram ladies, sure. But it’s frustrating to think someone has an answer to a question that you have only to find out that they didn’t even work to attain what they have. It’s kind of like trying to follow a training program from someone that’s on steroids. Their pharmaceutical enhancements are going to produce gains, so thinking that we can look like, or be as strong as them without similar pharmaceutical enhancements is setting us up for failure.

And, if you turn to just the right angle, even a flat butt will look like it’s massive. These photos are staged to make the model look the best that she possibly can…so we aren’t seeing real life when we see a snapshot of their tokus.

This combo, whether it’s all of the ingredients or a mashing of two, misleads us into believing that these ladies know how to train. But, ninety-nine percent of the time, they don’t. And the silly workouts they post aren’t going to get you the results that you want.

All those band side steps, pumps, leg lifts, reverse barbell horse kicks, etc. aren’t going to produce the strength, lift, and shape you want for your butt—not like actually learning how to squat, deadlift, and kettlebell swing will.

You see, muscles need stress to grow—a reason. Squats, deadlifts, and kettlebell swings give the glute muscles a stronger reason to grow than all of the silly little butt exercises we see Instagram models doing. The heavier weights used during squats, deadlifts, and swings tell the body that it better add muscle on that booty or the next time it sees that weight it won’t be able to move it.

That’s the deal—the body adds muscle so that it is able to adapt and survive situations. It’s going to do more to overcome a threatening situation than a non-threatening one. Squats, deadlifts, and kettlebell swings offer the perfect amount of threat to make muscles grow—when they’re included in a well-structured program. Silly, Instagram butt exercises, while they feel like they’re doing something, don’t offer enough threat to the body to tell it to pop the butt cheeks.

Also, I’m guessing that if your favorite Instagram model is actually working to earn her butt, she’s doing a fair amount of squatting and deadlifting to actually build her butt—all of the exercises she’s showing you on her page are just for views, likes, and clicks.

So, if you want to build your butt, and also have a body that’s useful, learn how to squat, deadlift, and do kettlebell swings. Do them frequently, and do them consistently over a solid period of time, and your butt will get bigger and stronger. And, this other crazy thing happens…you start to feel more satisfied with your strength, and the beautiful things that your body can do, and you start to worry less about the falsified beauty someone else is displaying on their social media accounts.
